Online Roulette Odds

Players who are fond of roulette are likely already aware that there are three different variations available to them: American, European and French roulette. Each one of these variants offers different odds to the player, and some are certainly more favorable than others.

American Roulette

American roulette is touted as being the least advantageous to the player and more beneficial to the casino. It has 38 numbers; 18 are black, 18 are red and the zero and double zero pockets are green. The addition of the double zero pocket is what makes this choice a poor one for players as it increases the house edge significantly. Any ball that lands in a zero pocket is considered an automatic win for the house.

European Roulette

European roulette is set up just like American roulette, but the double zero pocket does not exist. This increases the odds that the player will win somewhat, though the single zero pocket can still pose some problems. There are 18 red numbers, 18 black numbers and a green single zero pocket. Surprisingly, the removal of the double zero can increase the player's odds of winning by more than 1%.

French Roulette

French and European roulette are almost exactly the same. On the French wheel, there are 18 red pockets, 18 black pockets and one single zero pocket which is also green. The main difference here is that players who land on the zero do not automatically lose. In fact, players are given back half of their bets when this occurs. Therefore, the odds for European and French roulette are relatively alike.

Players who are interested in getting the best odds when it comes to playing roulette should always seek out the French roulette table as this provides a half return on a double zero. Since these wheels are not available in many online or land-based casinos outside of France and Europe, the European wheel is the next best choice.
